Dietitian for hire?

I DID IT!! Yesterday, after blogging all about exercising and such, it totally got me motivated. Sooo...after I was all good and done with my post and changing the title of my page and getting a new template and changing it's colors to something more of my liking...I headed back to the living room and WORKED OUT! I did the entire Carmen Electra workout...that one is a good 40-45 minutes. It targets each of the needed areas, including the core, which I love working on. I love feeling those muscles exist in my body after I'm done working out. It helps me notice my posture more and reminds me to sit/stand better. I was all pumped up after that video, and so I put in my Denise Austin Pilates video. I did the first section which is also core, then I decided I'd probably had enough of a workout for the day and decided I'd start over on that one in the morning. Which I totally did! I got up at 6:10 this morning (after only hitting snooze once rather than the 3 times I hit it yesterday) and went in and did my pilates workout for a good 45 mins. I really wanted to run around the block after that, but the clock was screaming at me to get the girls up and moving. Which is soo not fun when you have a 6 yr old named Alyssa. That's a totally different post though...

Anyway, since I don't have a scale, I decided to take some measurements and record them, so I have something to compare it to down the road...assuming I keep this up. (what a negative thing to say, of course I'm going to keep it up!) Now I just gotta figure out the healthiest way for me to eat. The thing I've found is that with kids, it's soooooooo haaaaaaaaarrrrD to eat healthy. Although, lately, I've been doing somewhat better. We've cut out a LOT of fast food in the last few weeks. Mostly for financial reasons, but hey, if it helps w/my attempt at getting into better 'shape', then who cares, right?

For breakfast this morning though, I was bad. I took Josiah to work and went to make our rent payment and Camden kept complaining about being hungry, so I went through the JitB drive through. I usually get their Cibatta Breakfast combo w/a large Dr. P. No clue how many calories are in that thing but I'm sure a bajillion! It's soooo good though. (Except when they forget to toast the cibatta roll first!) Anway, this morning I saw they had this new Sirloin steak & egg burrito w/chipotle sauce....so I gave it a whirl. I figured that considering it was minus the bacon, that alone had to cut the calories down to 1/2 a bajillion. It was good. For lunch I had a Nutrigrain cereal bar, strawberry flavored, and a handful or 2 of red grapes, and a bottle of water. For an early dinner, I ate 1/2 cibatta roll w/2 slices of ham and a tidbit of mayo. We'll see if I make it through the evening though w/out eating something more...

Eeeep....in my curiousity-ness I went to JitB's website to check out the nutrition info on those 2 items...the sandwhich actually has less calories than the burrito, however, the burrito has almost twice as many carbs! Take a looksie...

(It wouldn't let me only take the info that I wanted and paste it here, so there's the url if you care to see...)

I am clueless though when it comes to what to watch out for when you eat. I mean, I hear that you should watch your carbs but that there are good carbs and bad carbs? WHYYYYY...I want it to be simple! I need someone to literally write out a menu for me, go to the store and buy the stuff, and then actually come to my house and prepare it for me. While they're at it, they may as well spoon feed it to me as well!

Anyway, I suppose I've gone on for long enough, until next time...

I'm the same way about the food thing. And mostly..if you wanna know good carbs from bad..ask Jenna. She was here a few weeks after I had Maddox and lemme tell ya.. I've never felt better about what I ate. She's good at that sort of thing.

Sounds like you want the Oprah diet - hire a personal chef to be at your beck and call. On the good carb/bad carb thing if you go whole grain and sugar free and you'll be safe (i think) but you'll loose a lot of the kiddie favorites. I read once that a PBJ sandwich on white was just like eating a piece of CAKE isn't that funny. So true, but funny. we switched to mainly whole grain wheat bread and pasta without any complaint. It's a start for us. Next time we chat on the phone I'll have to fill you in on all my dietition secrets. Not that I am one but I've researched a bunch :) By the way next time I'm in AZ I would LOVE to photography your family! Something fun to look forward to at Cmas or in the spring (I hope).

Aw,thanks Abs! For everyone reading, I recommend the book "YOU: On a Diet". It is SO simple to understand and really explains how your body works and how food affects us, plus has lots of great menus and recipes. It promises you can lose 2" in your waist in 2 weeks, and it works! Our family eats very similarly to this. I have many other book recommendations, but you can let me know privately if you want them...wouldn't want to overwhelm. But go read that one for sure!

Wow, good for you!

Because of my New Condition (diabetes) I have HAD to change the way I eat and now I feel so good I can hardly stand myself. We do it real real simple: as close to How It Grew as possible.

Whole wheat (REAL whole wheat as opposed to white with coloring added) breads and rolls and pasta, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and poultry (I am crazy about salmon), some low-fat dairy. Olive oil for cooking and in recipes that call for vegetable oil. Walnuts and almonds. No simple sugar. Oddly, I don't miss it.

Seriously yummy treat is to get some plain non-fat yogurt and mix it in a little rubbermaid container with cut up ripe fruit and then let it sit for awhile so the fruit juice gets into it. Stir it up. You don't even need to sweeten it, and it hasn't got that weird sort of plastic mouth-feel of commercial fruity yogurt.

Cheese sticks. Whole grain crackers. Little pieces of fruit. REAL butter, just use it sparingly. LOTS of water.

Easy!

The exercise part -- not so easy!

Have to chime in... Dr. OZ is so hillarious to watch on Oprah. If he is ever on, WATCH,you'll be entertained and learn something too! I bet you all have seen him already, but since his book was brought up, I had to mention him. I just wish he'd wear something other than Scrubs on national TV!
