It's ok to have fun, even when gas is so expensive...

Friday night we went to our ward campout which was at Camp Lomia. (This was where I went for girls camp back when I was in Young Womens.) I was having a pretty poor attitude about it before hand, because we were going to have to be out of there by 10:30 Saturday morning and there was no way we were going to be there by noon on Friday. With Josiah having work and the girls w/school...My concern wasn't that we weren't going to have enough time to be there and play and have fun and what not, my frustration was in the fact that it was going to take a good 1/2 tank of gas or so to get there and back and for such a short amount of time. I don't know if any of you others have noticed lately or not, but gas is NOT cheap! Anyway, I was feeling like I'd just rather stay home and maybe take the kids to a movie or something instead, but they sooo wanted to go.

Since we'd already let them down twice this summer, (1 being that we didn't make it to San Diego like we'd planned, and the other was a weekend trip that I'd wanted to take to my grandparents cabin in Lakeside.) I really didn't want to do it again. So, I tried to have a happier attitude about it and threw everything together that we'd need for 12 hours. We didn't end up pulling away til about 5:30 Friday evening, and then we got to sit on Bush Highway for a good 35 or so minutes because of a silly construction delay. Who schedules construction near/around a holiday weekend?! Fortunately there's a dvd player in the suburban that we bought a month ago, so the kids were mostly entertained by that.

We made it up there by about 8:00 PM and had some dinner. Entertainment went on from about 8:30 til 10 or so. It was enjoyable.

We were sharing a cabin w/my brother Jeremy and his wife Leslie, as they are now in our ward. The kids were so excited that night and could hardly fall asleep! I think everyone was finally out by around 1:00 AM. Of course, a good portion of us were up by 6:15.

They did a flag ceremony and then had some breakfast. Afterwards, they did a scavenger hunt for the kids and some were playing baseball and having water balloon fights. I took a couple kids on a little hike which was a good way for me to get my exercise in while there. It was about 10:45 when we pulled out.

We stopped in Payson for some lunch on the way home and took it to a nearby park to enjoy the weather a little longer, before returning to the 110° heat. While there I gained a friend....

This little critter made it's way up my pant leg.... Totally gross!! I was very glad that it didn't decide to venture it's way up the inside!!

We returned home around 1:00. I think for the most part, we all had a good time!

I took TONS of pictures! I had both my digital camera and my good ol' 35mm. We only went through 1 roll of film on that, but got over 100 on the digi. Because there's so many though, I'll add a link to see them, rather than bog down blogger w/em.

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Labor Day! Happy Tuesday!

Ok, so the link thing isn't working? I'll have to do it this way...hopefully it works...

Btw, Camp LoMia is also where I went to Girls' Camp, oh, back around '61-'62.

Let's all sing! (tune of Frere Jacques)

Camp LoMia, Camp LoMia
We love you! We love you!
With your logs and cabins, with your creek and pine trees
You are tops! You are tops!

(How scary is that?)

Sarah! Great pics! And I can't believe how much each of your kids looks like Josiah in different ways. I'm sure your mom says that about them looking like you too, and they do, but I remember Josiah as a little guy, and man! Genetics are amazing! They're all getting so big, and so beautiful!

Isn't it funny that re-living a trip and looking thru the pics is almost more fun than the actual trip?! That's how I feel about vacations or little road trips - expecially with kids. It's always worth the effort in the end :-)
